More than 8 years ago, Band of Brothers premiered on HBO and our lives changed forever. Band of Brothers, a 10-part miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, premiered 2 days before the events of 9/11. The series finished its run amid rising patriotism and renewed respect for those in uniform and their sacrifice. Since then it has become a favorite of the men and women of the armed forces as well as their families.  It was based on the book of the same title written by historian and biographer Stephen Ambrose. It followed the story of E Company (“Easy Company”) of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment assigned to the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. The series followed Easy company from basic training at Toccoa, Georgia, the American airborne landings in Normandy, Operation Market Garden, the Battle of Bastogne and on to the end of the war. It has been regarded as one of the best TV miniseries of all time.

It casts a long and impressive shadow over The Pacific, itself a 10-part miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg, Gary Goetzman and Tom Hanks. This time the focus is on the Pacific Theater of Operations, and is based primarily on two memoirs written by US Marines Eugene Sledge and Robert Lecke. The series will also tell the story of Marine John Basilone and features a large ensemble cast of actors. For most of them this series represents the biggest project of their careers. Expectations are high, especially for us Ladies of Singlarity. I wish Michael Kamen was still alive so he could have written the score for this series. Check out the Band of Brothers Soundtrack – it makes a great stocking stuffer.

Band of Brothers brought us all together. Without it, we probably would never have met. It ushers fond memories for all of us. It has been a while since we sat down and watched the series from end to end, but from time to time, we make reference to scenes and even sprout quotes. Band of Brothers, made us into a band of sisters. So now we turn our eyes to The Pacific, wondering if the magic can be relived.

We hope so.

Just Saw New Moon and OMG. It was a total emo fest! It wasn’t unintentionally funny like the first movie [Twilight]…this one was basically all, “WOE IS ME! My man is gone…the only way to fill the void is to fuck up my chance at a good education and do some cliff diving to ease the pain! WOE.”

It’s…wow. There are no WORDS! Although I will admit, Jacob, the werewolf guy, is hot. But he’s emo too, and he’s going through some werewolf PMS in this one. Apparently shifters can’t get angry, because they can’t control said anger and sometimes get violent with people they lurve! So he has these Hulk moments where he looks like he’s gonna lose his shit, but he goes off and does some Lamaze breathing, so it’s okay! And uhm, let’s see…Bella broods. A lot. Her whole life revolves around Edward (Noooo! Didn’t see that coming). She has these moments where she spouts emo poetry, complains about voids never being able to be filled, blah blah blah. And what else? Oh, Edward sparkles more. It still disturbs me. Nothing new there.

But there is something I am disappointed about.

NO VOLVO.

So disappointed. You have no idea. I mean, you can’t have Edward without his Volvo! What was the director thinking? I have faith that this problem will be fixed in the sequel. HOW IS EDWARD SUPPOSED TO SAVE BELLA IF HE DOESN’T HAVE HIS VOLVO? What, is he supposed to settle saving her with a Ford or something? HE MAY AS WELL NOT BOTHER. Good luck trying to save your lady love with a Taurus, buddy!

In this edition, we reminisce about the singularity that occured on May 6th, 2008, when RetroVixen, swampmusic, Ayn Rant and Nibby discovered that they were all simultaneously crushing on the same celebrity. It is a very very rare occurrence. Even more rare is the fact that they all decided to share him, rather than battle to the death (as is the norm).

Ayn Rant: I don’t get it, but it makes complete sense … only a black Robert Downey Jr. could bring us all together.

Steven Seagal is a deputy sheriff. Let that marinate in your mind for a bit. I can’t tell my mother this because she’ll just go out and commit a crime just so she can be subdued and handcuffed by the man who is only surpassed in acting ability by David Caruso and Nic Cage.

Thanks to swampmusic for reminding me about this little gem. Laura Mercier’s Silk Creme Foundation has sadly not won my love. It applied beautifully, my eczema wasn’t even noticeable (it even covered better than the foundation I had that was *made* for eczema!), but it made me ORANGE. So it’s going back. Good news, though. A product I bought called “Egyptian Magic” is working awesomely. In *two* days my face is glowing, my eczema is almost nonexistent, my skin is smooth, and the terrible bout of acne I’ve had is disappearing! This stuff truly is “magic”. It’s got 6 ingedients: olive oil, bees wax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, and bee propolis. With those kind of ingedients, I didn’t hesitate to use it on my face. And the things you can do with this stuff is amazing.
