Sneaky Vengeance

7 Aug

It’s the kind that you don’t see coming. In fact it’s the kind that you let in the front door because you’ve mistaken it for a gift of kindness. It’s the kind that makes you think you did it to yourself and the consequences are well-deserved. It’s the kind that doesn’t even let you know that you’re being hunted. It’s the kind that keeps you awake at night, staring at the shadows on the wall and listening for the creatures lurking under the bed or in the closet. It’s the kind that causes the hair on the back of your neck to inexplicably stand on end. It’s the kind that makes you imagine strange scratching noises on the back door or voices coming from the heating vents. It’s the kind that makes the freshest milk curdle and sour in your mouth. Beware. Be very afraid. Vengeance born by a guilty heart is fraught with misery and perturbation from which there is no escape but to confess.

For the opponent’s sake, I hope they confess.

And also, do not go into the fog. Seriously, BAD THINGS are in the fog. It’s the more foreboding part.
